SAN ANTONIO (March 30, 2021) – San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department officials announce that City parks and greenway trails will be open Easter weekend. However, curfew will not be lifted to accommodate camping in parks. More than 250 parks are open daily from 5am-11pm; natural areas and greenway trails are open sunrise to sunset. This presents a great opportunity for the public to spend time outdoors this weekend.
“We’re excited that households will be able to enjoy parks during Easter weekend this year. While our community is making positive strides in the fight against COVID-19, it’s important to continue to be vigilant and follow health guidelines such as wearing masks and physically distancing,” said Homer Garcia III, Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Department asks visitors to follow the Leave No Trace principle of Pack It In/Pack It Out. Whatever items you pack to bring to the park, remember to pack it out and take it home. Disposing of trash at home instead of the park helps prevent park trashcans and recycling receptacles from overflowing and littering our green spaces and waterways. Patrons are urged to bring trash bags and remove their trash at the end of their visit.
The Parks Community Engagement Team and volunteers will be at parks this weekend promoting a safe outdoor environment handing out masks, sanitizer, and extra trash bags to encourage proper trash disposal & recycling. Recycling bins are available in the parks and should be used for plastic bottles and cans. No glass containers are allowed. Food-contaminated waste should be disposed of in trash cans.
The Department is seeking volunteers to help promote a safe Easter weekend in parks and pick up litter over the holiday weekend. To learn more visit saparksandrec.com.
