Icon Talks, in Partnership with the San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, welcomes Chaka Khan to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (January 5, 2016) – Icon Talks, in partnership with The City of San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, is excited to welcome 10-time Grammy-winning music artist, author and producer, Chaka Khan, to San Antonio on Thursday, January 28, 2016. The event, “Icon Talks Presents an Evening of Music & Conversation with Chaka Khan,” is part of the Commission’s MLK Distinguished Lecture Series for the 2016 San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration.

“Each year, the San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission works diligently to develop a series of events in honor of Dr. King to provide an educational and cultural experience for the residents of San Antonio and to the many visitors who travel to our city for the annual commemoration,” said Brandon Logan, Chair of the San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. “The Commission is proud to partner with Icon Talks to welcome Chaka Khan to San Antonio to share her own personal story with audiences.”

Khan will share her journey of rising to prominence and celebrity as one of the most iconic artists of all time. Khan further will address the intimate audience by explaining her recognized core keys to success and highlighting monumental differences between success and significance. The event also includes a private concert for attendees. The event will be held at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Tobin. Proceeds from this event will directly benefit Icon Talks’ charitable counterpart, Icon to Ican, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in San Antonio.

Icon to Ican’s mission is to create significant impacts by providing mentorship and empowerment programs for disadvantaged and disabled youth to help them overcome physical, social and economic barriers.

“We are excited to have an artist of this magnitude join us for this event,” said John Hartsfield, co-founder of Icon Talks. “Her story is incredibly amazing and will definitely move the audience. This is just one of many intimate and inspirational events Icon Talks will host.”

“Icon Talks Presents an Evening of Music & Conversation with Chaka Khan,” is one of more than two dozen official events as part of the San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission’s annual commemoration in honor of Dr. King.
