8 Ways You Can Be Prepared on Pet Fire Safety Day

If an emergency were to happen right now, would you be able to keep you and your pets safe? 

The thought alone is stressful, sad, and feels so unlikely that we just end up trying not to think of it at all. Although we can never completely prevent fires from happening, we can have peace of mind by being as prepared as possible to keep us and our pets safe in case they do. The key is to keep our pets in mind and be ready to act at any given time.

Weekend Event Results in 57 Pet Adoptions and $5,150 Thanks to Bissell Pet Foundation

From July 10th to July 12th, San Antonio Animal Care Services teamed up with the Bissell Pet Foundation to host the Empty the Shelters adoption event! With Bissell’s help, we were able to offer $15 dog adoptions and $5 cat adoptions. Our goal was to find homes for the pets in our care and make more space for the pets coming in after the 4th of July festivities.

ACS Advisory Board Meeting

ACS - Virtual Meeting

The Animal Care Services Advisory Board meets six (6) times a year (with at least one being a work session). Meetings occur on the third Wednesday of every other month at 6:30 pm. Due to social distancing guidelines required by the Covid-19 pandemic, a virtual board meeting will be held via the WebEx service. Access link and code will be provided 24 hours before the scheduled meeting.

Every year, shelters around the country see an increase in lost pets around the 4th of July holiday. At San Antonio Animal Care Services, we see a large increase in 311 calls for roaming pets, and crowds of  pet parents visiting our shelter to look for their lost pets.

Happy Tails: May 25,2020 – May 31,2020

426 pets found a home this past week!
  • 127 pets were adopted
  • 19 pets left with foster families
  • 153 pets left with our rescue partners
  • 127 pets were reunited with their families!
