Halloween is fast approaching and ongoing COVID related cautions will likely change some traditional activities like door to door trick-or-treating. Despite this “new normal,” Halloween is still considered a family-oriented holiday and many people like to include their pets in the festivities. If an emergency were to happen right now, would you be able to keep you and your pets safe? 

The thought alone is stressful, sad, and feels so unlikely that we just end up trying not to think of it at all. Although we can never completely prevent fires from happening, we can have peace of mind by being as prepared as possible to keep us and our pets safe in case they do. The key is to keep our pets in mind and be ready to act at any given time.

Weekend Event Results in 57 Pet Adoptions and $5,150 Thanks to Bissell Pet Foundation

From July 10th to July 12th, San Antonio Animal Care Services teamed up with the Bissell Pet Foundation to host the Empty the Shelters adoption event! With Bissell’s help, we were able to offer $15 dog adoptions and $5 cat adoptions. Our goal was to find homes for the pets in our care and make more space for the pets coming in after the 4th of July festivities.

7 Tips for Keeping Your Pets Safe Before and During Fireworks

Every year, shelters around the country see an increase in lost pets around the 4th of July holiday. At San Antonio Animal Care Services, we see a large increase in 311 calls for roaming pets, and crowds of  pet parents visiting our shelter to look for their lost pets.  

The best way to prepare yourself and your pet for fireworks season is to be proactive and mindful of their feelings during this time. To make it easier, we've put together helpful tips to make this holiday less stressful for you and your pet!
