Pictured Above: Mission San Jose at 2016 Restored By Light Event

The Office of Historic Preservation partners with the National Park Service to host a community-wide showcase of the intricate and vivid ornamentation that was once visible on the mission facades. Restored By Light is made free and open to the public, and has become a regional event with attendees coming from outside of San Antonio. Save the Date - Restored by Light returns to Mission Concepcion on September 8, 2017. 

The first Restored By Light event was held in 2015 at Mission Concepcion, where there is the most remaining evidence of the frescoes. The event gave the community a chance to experience and enjoy the mission is in original appearance without creating permanent changes which could affect the authenticity of the site.

In 2016, Restored By Light was expanded to include the “Queen of the Missions” Mission San Jose. The event grew to over 2,000 attendees who enjoyed the light display as well as musical  and dance performances. The event was widely-proclaimed as an inspiring and exciting community celebration of culture, art, and heritage. Read more...
