Preservation is all about People + Place.
Local heritage is more than just our historic buildings. It the personal and shared experiences that give places meaning. We launched the Con Safo social media campaign in 2015 to provide a method for people to share their favorite places and stories. Con Safos is a term used to mean “this is protected, don’t mess with it” (among its other meanings), and it's the perfect phrase for San Antonians to use when sharing the stories of places that matter to them.
#ConSafoSanAntonio is an ongoing social media campaign. Submit your photos today!
How do I Participate?
1. Select a place, object or person you designate as important in your life.
2. Print out the blank page that follows or pick up a yard sign from our office at 1901 S. Alamo.
3. Tell us why that place, object or person is important to you by writing a short story on the paper or yard sign.
4. Tweet, Facebook, or Instagram using #consafosanantonio, or e-mail it to us and let us post for you. Make sure to say where your place is located. Use #livinglandmark if you are celebrating a person. And don’t forget to challenge your friends to participate!
The Con Safo Campaign also yielded a new local landmark which was found to be eligible for having cultural significance. Read more about the history of 4537 Monterey (pictured above) on our blog.
