With the input of community partners and public history advocates, OHP developed two local historical marker programs that help capture San Antonio's unique and underrepresented histories: There's a Story Here, a crowd-sourced story-sharing and mapping program with stickers or small markers installed at each site, and History Here, a community-reviewed historical marker program that results in a plaque.
We're relying on you, our citizen historians, to submit stories and nominate undercelebrated histories we can share not only with our neighbors, but also with those who are new to our city and its vibrant history.
THERE'S A STORY HERE
There's a Story Here is a sticker and sign campaign that crowd-sources stories about places that are special to San Antonians. The project seeks to celebrate fun, obscure, meaningful, and previously untold stories by highlighting locations tied to these stories through an interactive map and public engagement. The subject doesn’t have to be first, last, or best, though those are welcome. They can be family stories, urban legends, or anything you think would interest people passing by. And there’s no age minimum for stories shared, so recent history is welcome, too.

The History Here program is a community-reviewed local marker program that prioritizes undertold and geographically diverse stories, substantiated by research, embedded community knowledge, oral traditions, and other nontraditional approaches to public history.
