The City of San Antonio, in partnership with the WellMed Charitable Foundation, opened the doors of Alicia Treviño López Senior Center in June 2011. This 30,000 square foot facility, located in Council District 6, provides a wide array of programs and services geared towards supporting seniors 60 and over to remain healthy, engaged, and independent. Also known as the home of the self-professed chair volleyball champs, this fast pace, high energy center environment is complemented by its robust programming. Programs and services include a daily lunch time meal, health screenings, fitness classes, certified fitness advisor, social services, caregiver support services, evidenced-base education programs and transportation services to and from the center for eligible seniors living within a 5- mile radius of the center. The center is equipped with two full size exercise studios, large gym equipment area, ping pong tables, inviting social areas, billiards tables, computer café, demonstration kitchen and multi-purpose rooms. Additionally, if you are in the mood to slow things down, you can enjoy a movie and popcorn on Tuesdays and Fridays, or sign up to partake in professionally led art classes. Whatever your preference is, Alicia Treviño López Senior Center is surely to have something for everyone. We invite you to come be part of this great, diverse community!
The center was named in honor of the mother of District 6 City Councilman Ray López who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2003. The experience of caring for their mother helped the entire López family understand the value of comprehensive services and care for senior citizens to improve their quality of life.
