Rental and Mortgage Assistance

Important message to Veterans. If you cannot make your rent or mortgage payment please read this. The City of San Antonio can help.

As a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, individuals and families are experiencing economic hardships and are not able to pay their rent or mortgage.  In an effort to keep people housed and also to  preserve the ability for the landlord to collect payment so they can maintain the property, City Council approved the COVID 19 Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP).  The program will pay the rent or mortgage for qualified applicants:

  • Must make less than 100% of the Area Median Income which is $49,500 for a family of 1 and $71,000 for a family of 4.
  • Live in the City of San Antonio.
  • Provide proof of an economic hardship such as loss of job, loss of wages, reduction in wages, proof of unemployment benefits, etc.

If an applicant qualifies for rental or mortgage assistance, the program will also pay CPS and SAWS for outstanding utility payments and the program will also pay for outstanding bills associated with internet access.  Additionally, each approved applicant will get receive a cash grant up to $300.    The current program budget is $25 million and the program will sunset on July 31, 2020.
