Family Assistance Crisis Team (F.A.C.T.)

The Family Assistance Crisis Team (F.A.C.T.), established in December 1991, is a collaborative, community project responding to victims of family violence. In 1995, F.A.C.T. became part of the Victims Advocacy Office of the San Antonio Police Department. Since its beginning, more than 1800 F.A.C.T. volunteers have been trained to offer crisis intervention services to victims and their families.

Volunteer Assignments

If you want to be part of the community response to ending domestic violence, the F.A.C.T. program offers a variety of ways and times to get involved. Trained F.A.C.T. Volunteers have a choice of daytime or nighttime assignments.

DAYTIME : Daytime opportunities are available at the Family Justice Center. Volunteers can choose to serve at the Family Justice Center Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm. Job duties include greeting clients and assisting with initial paperwork, helping clients get to the correct offices, making follow-up calls, assisting with Crime Victims Compensation applications, and other tasks that arise. Volunteers are asked to work at least eight hours a month at the Center. This can be one full day of volunteering or two half days.

NIGHTIME : Volunteers are available in substations to provide crisis intervention services for clients coming in or calling for assistance. There are volunteers at each substation who ride once a month with an officer on the officer's regular 10:00pm-6:00am shift. The volunteer works with the officer to provide resources and information to victims of domestic violence. Staff invites volunteers who complete their first 6 months with reliable attendance and who meet the criteria, to attend extra training to prepare for this opportunity.

All volunteers are asked to make at least a six month commitment; volunteers are welcome to continue with F.A.C.T. for as long as they choose.
