San Antonio (January 17, 2020) – The San Antonio Airport System will be offering special programming beginning January 17 during San Antonio’s DreamWeek commemoration. DreamWeek’s mission is to celebrate our humanity by creating environments for civil and civic engagement to embrace ideas and dreams for the common good.
The programming will highlight two special artists known for their dynamic talent: local music icon Billy Ray Sheppard presented by SAT Live, and featured artist Kaldric Dow presented by the Galleries @ SAT. Sheppard is a contemporary jazz saxophonist who will be on the soundstage performing smooth, soulful tunes. He has shared his talents on local, regional and national stages or in the studio with icons Peter White, Steve Oliver, Will Donato, Roy Hargrove, Julio Iglesias, Groove Frequencies and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. His song “Heels and Pearls” is currently on the Top 20 national airplay chart on smooth jazz radio. Sheppard also hosts “Second Sunday Smooth Jazz” events in San Antonio with proceeds used to support local charities. Sheppard will perform from 11:00am-2:00pm on January 17, 20, 22 and 24 in the baggage area between both of the terminals.
Dow’s artwork will be featured at the Galleries @ SAT. He is a Houston-native considered to be a leading African American artist of the generation of millennials. He studied at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he cultivated his drawing, perspective, and an understanding of art history. There, he absorbed the acute attention to skin tone, lighting, and dynamics of color theory and a keen sense of art. His subjects often reference the African American history, the civil rights movement, hip-hop culture, and the relationship between pop culture and fine art. Dow’s exhibition premiers on January 20.
DreamWeek is January 10-26 and is held each year in concurrence with the City of San Antonio’s Annual Martin Luther King Commemorative March.
