SAN ANTONIO (September 29, 2020) — The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) is alerting the community of an Ozone Action Day for tomorrow, September 30th. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution.

On Ozone Action Days, young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities. If you have asthma or difficulty breathing, please stay indoors. With COVID-19 in our community, it is critical for San Antonio residents with respiratory health conditions to stay home and limit trips outside their home to those that are absolutely essential.

To help keep air quality levels healthy, residents and business are encouraged to practice certain pollution-reducing activities such as:

  • Refueling vehicles after 6:00 p.m.
  • Working from home (if possible), walking or riding a bicycle (early in the morning or in the evening), taking your lunch to work, and avoiding drive-thru lanes
  • Conserving energy
  • Keeping your vehicle properly tuned
