SAN ANTONIO (November 25, 2020) — Today, District 3 volunteered at local senior centers to distribute food for Thanksgiving.  Seniors from the District 3 community lined up in their cars to receive food from the South Side Lions Senior Center and the Elvira Cisneros Senior Center. Safety measures and social distancing were enforced.

“Seniors are the heart of our community and because of the pandemic, we have not had the opportunity to see them as often as we have in past years.  District 3 is happy to have seen so many of our seniors in good spirits and help where we can. We continue to remember our seniors and keep them engaged during this time,” Councilwoman Viagran stated. “Thanksgiving is a time we share what we are grateful for and come together to lend a helping hand when needed.  Not all are able to spend time with family this year, so offering a nice meal is an act of kindness that will show our gratitude and thanks.”

Senior Centers are temporarily closed due to the COVID pandemic and are slated to re-open in mid-January. Until then, all Senior Center members enrolled in the Senior Nutrition Program are receiving meal distributions at the senior centers during the closure. Seniors needing a meal may contact the Department of Human Services senior center nearest to them for services or call 210.207.7172.
