At the beginning of 2013, a subscription-based organics collection service was introduced. When residents subscribe to this service, they are provided with a green cart for the weekly curbside collection of organic material. The organic material collected is recycled into valuable compost that can be used in landscaping and gardening projects. Organic material includes
- Shrub and tree trimmings
- Food scraps
- Food-soiled paper (e.g., used napkins, paper plates, and pizza boxes)
At this time, the service is not available in all areas of the City. As the service is expanded, residents are notified via a flyer and given the opportunity to subscribe. If curbside collection of organics is not yet offered in your area, you can still reduce waste by composting in your backyard.
If you received a notification from the City indicating the service is available in your area, you can subscribe by calling 210-207-6428 or subscribe online by entering your address into the My Collection Day finder to confirm service in your area and to access and submit the service subscription form.
